A new right front axle shaft seal installer tool set No. 6228 has been developed for front axles with vacuum disconnect motors. The new tool set is
required due to a design change that eliminated the seal stop that was machined into earlier axles. The tool will correctly position the seal in the axle
housing to assure proper sealing. It is used along with the current J-34659 tool set.
Procedure

1.
Remove a small amount of brake fluid from the brake master cylinder.
2.
Raise vehicle.
3.
Remove right front wheel/tire assembly.
4.
Carefully pry the caliper piston back into bottom of the caliper bore.
5.
Remove the caliper (1). (It is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic brake hose from the caliper.) Remove disc brake pads (2) and anti-rattle
clips (3). Fig. 1
CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW THE BRAKE HOSE TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE CALIPER. TIE THE CALIPER TO THE BODY OR A
SUSPENSION COMPONENT.
