PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSIS UPDATE
Some 1985 California 70 Series models with V-6 engine and manual transmission, may exhibit a mild surge at light load in all gear ranges.
Service correction is as follows.
PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the air cleaner.
2.
Remove the EGR valve and gasket and clean the valve mating surface of the intake manifold.
3.
Install replacement valve gasket, P/N 323 7589, and EGR valve, P/N 8953 004 277. Tighten the EGR valve attaching bolts to 19 N-m (16 ft.lbs..)
torque.
4.
Adjust curb idle speed as follows:
a.
Connect a tachometer to the ignition system.
b.
Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperatures.
c.
Turn all accessories off.
d.
Disconnect and plug the EGR valve vacuum line and the canister purge vacuum line (at the canister).
e.
Shift the transmission into Neutral.
f.
Adjust idle speed to the setting specified on the underhood emission control information label.
g.
Stop the engine. Remove the plugs from the EGR valve and canister purge vacuum lines and reconnect the lines.
5.
Adjust the throttle position sensor (TPS) output voltage to 0.40 volts (400 mv) using a 5.0 volt D.C. input. Refer to the TPS adjustment procedures
on pages B-201 and B-202 of the M.R. 244.
NOTE:
The TPS adjustment procedure requires fabrication of three jumper wires. The wires can be quickly constructed using jumper wire terminal kit,
