OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the front disc brake pads and the machining or replacement of the front brake rotors.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle may exhibit minor brake pedal pulsation at highway speeds when braking. This may be caused by rough surfaces on the disc rotor. This
condition will usually occur in warm climate, high humidity areas. This condition may also be present in areas where a higher amount of salt is present
(snow belt states or coastal states). Chemical material from the brake pads can transfer to the rotors causing enough surface friction variation or uneven
rotor wear to induce this rough feel and minor brake pulsation.
DIAGNOSIS:
Road test the vehicle at highway speeds. Lightly apply the service brakes. If the vibration is felt in the brake pedal, steering wheel or body, inspect the
rotors. Often, the rotors will appear discolored or darker in areas where the brake pad material has transferred to the rotor. If the condition is present,
perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Measure the brake rotors to verify that the rotors can be turned and still remain within the specifications for minimum thickness. The specification
for minimum thickness is either stamped or cast into the rotor hub. If the rotors can be machined, it is required that an approved on-the-car brake
lathe be used. Do not use off-the-car brake lathe machining equipment. Replace any rotor(s) not suitable for machining.
2.
Install the new brake pads, p/n 04778058AC, using procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or on the MDS 2. Remember to tighten
the wheel tire lug nuts to no more than 115 - 156 Nm (85 - 115 ft. lbs.).
