Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove steering wheel as outlined previously.
2. Remove lockplate cover.
3. On models with tilt column, remove tilt lever. On all models, depress hazard warning knob, turn counterclockwise, then remove from steering
column.
4. Compress lockplate using tool J-23653-A or equivalent, then remove steering shaft snap ring.
5. Remove lockplate, canceling cam, upper bearing preload spring, spring seat and bearing race.
6. Disengage turn signal/wiper lever by pulling it straight out, then disconnect turn signal switch harness connector from steering column lower
bracket.Wrap tape around switch harness connector to prevent snagging during removal.
7. Remove turn signal switch retaining screws and actuator, then remove switch and harness by pulling switch straight up and out of column.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
