Comanche 4WD L6-242 4.0L VIN L FI (1990)
Service Procedure
Figure 1
Refer to Figure 1 for the following steps.
Service Procedure (Continued)
1.
Disconnect the throttle position sensor's (TPS) two electrical connectors.
2.
Remove the TPS wiring retaining clip from the bracket on the throttle body.
3.
Remove the TPS mounting screws and remove the TPS, with retaining clip, from the throttle body.
4.
Transfer the TPS wiring retaining clip from the removed TPS to the supplied TPS.
5.
Position the supplied TPS onto the throttle body assembly, ensuring that the TPS arm is underneath the arm of the throttle shaft lever.
6.
Install the TPS mounting screws, leaving the screws just loose enough to allow for TPS adjustment.
7.
Insert the TPS wiring retaining clip into the bracket on the throttle body.
8.
Reconnect the two TPS electrical connectors.
9.
Adjust the TPS to "12%-14%" using the DRB II in the "state display" mode. Tighten the TPS mounting screws when properly adjusted.
Important:
After adjusting the TPS, make sure that the ignition key is turned off for a minimum of 10 seconds to allow the B+ latch relay to
time out prior to the first restart of the engine. This permits the ECU to read only the current TPS % value at start-up and not a
combination of TPS values obtained during the adjustment procedure.
