COOLANT LEAK AT LOWER RADIATOR HOSE
Some 1987 Comanche vehicles equipped with the 4.0L engine may have a coolant leak at the water pump end of the lower radiator hose. Service
correction involves testing to confirm the location of the leak and replacing the worm-screw type hose clamp with a new constant tension spring clamp.
PROCEDURE
1.
Open and support the hood.
WARNING:
To guard against bodily injury from hot coolant, DO NOT check coolant level at the coolant bottle when the engine is hot. Let the engine
cool until the coolant bottle cap is cool enough to touch with your hand.

2.
Slowly release the pressure from the cooling system by turning the coolant bottle cap (A-Fig. 1).
3.
Fill the cooling system before pressure testing.
FIGURE 2
4.
Install pressure tester adapter cap M.S. 554-01 (Fig. 2) in place of the coolant bottle cap.
5.
Connect pressure tester M.S. 554-03 (Fig. 2) to the adapter cap.
6.
Apply 1.2 Bars (18 psi) of pressure to the cooling system.
7.
Determine if the coolant leak is coming from the lower radiator hose at the water pump end.
