Lower Door Hinge - May Cause A Chirp, Squeak, or Groan-Like Sound
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves lubrication of the lower door hinge and/or the adjustment of the lower door hinge spring.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to July 23, 2005 (MDH 0723XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a groan or a chirp/squeak-like sound when opening or closing one or more driver or passenger side doors. This sound may
originate from the lower door hinge. Depending on which sound is generated by the lower door hinge, the suspect hinge may require either lubrication
(for groan) or it may require repositioning of the hinge spring (for chirp/squeak).
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
If inspection determines that the lower hinge(s) on any of the four (4) doors causes only a groan-like sound, then perform Procedure A of the
Repair Procedure.
2.
If inspection determines that the lower hinge on one or both of the front doors (only) causes a chirp/squeak-like sound, then perform Procedure B
of the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Procedure A - Use To Correct Lower Hinge Groan-Like Sound - Any Door:
1.
Lubricate the inside diameter of the detent cam roller and the axle that the roller rotates on. Use the spray can nozzle straw to concentrate and
control the grease application.
2.
Repeat the above grease application for the lower hinges of the three (3) remaining doors.
Procedure B - Use To Correct Lower Hinge Chirp/Squeak-Like Sound - Front Door Only:
1.
Temporarily place a piece of cardboard or thick paper below the lower hinge to protect the paint on the A-pillar from being damaged during the
repair procedure.
