Compass: Description and Operation

MODULE-REMOTE COMPASS

The Remote Compass Module (RCM) (2) is a separate stand alone module mounted to the top side of the headliner (1). It is mounted in one of two
locations depending on if the vehicle is equipped with CommandView dual fixed second row skylights. If the vehicle is equipped with CommandView
skylights the module is located between the two glass panels. If the vehicle is not equipped with CommandView skylights the module is located on the
left side of the vehicle above the second row seats.

If the compass position sensor (Remote Compass Module) is inoperative and requires replacement.

The Compass/Temperature/Trip Computer Mode display provides the outside temperature, one of the eight compass headings to indicate the direction
the vehicle is facing, and vehicle trip information. The compass and temperature display is the normal display. When the C/T button is pressed the
compass/temperature display returns.

The Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) compass system is comprised of several different components. Those components are:

Instrument Cluster

Instrument panel center stack switch pod

Remote Compass Module (RCM)

Controller Area Network (CAN) Data Bus

The RCM data is transferred on the CAN Data Bus circuit. The RCM and EVIC will not function properly if the bus messages are not properly received.
If no EVIC data is displayed, check the CAN Data Bus circuit communications, the RCM, the Instrument Cluster functions and the Front Control
Module (FCM). Any diagnosis of the RCM and EVIC system should begin with, the use of a scan tool.
