Commander 4WD V8-4.7L VIN N (2006)
The rear washer plumbing consists of a small diameter rubber hose or hard plastic tube that is routed along with the front washer plumbing from the
washer reservoir under the left front fender ahead of the left front wheel to the engine compartment. Both hoses or tubes are attached to their respective
front or rear outlet nipple of the washer pump/motor unit near the bottom of the reservoir. The hoses or tubes are then secured by retainers to the left
inner fender. Just forward of the dash panel (3) in the engine compartment, an in-line connector with barbed nipples joins the rear washer reservoir hose
(1) or tube to the A-pillar hose or tube (2).
The A-pillar hose or tube (1) passes through a hole with a rubber grommet (2) in the dash panel (3) into the passenger compartment where it is attached
to the A-pillar (4) with plastic retainers (6). The A-pillar hose or tube is then routed up the left A-pillar to the headliner. At the headliner, an in-line
connector joins the A-pillar hose or tube to the headliner hose or tube (5).
The headliner hose or tube is routed above the headliner and along the left roof side rail to the rear of the vehicle. At the rear of the vehicle, the headliner
hose or tube is routed above the headliner and along the upper liftgate opening panel toward the right side of the vehicle. The headliner hose or tube then
passes through a hole with a rubber grommet in the upper liftgate opening panel and through another hole with a rubber grommet into the upper inner
liftgate panel to the rear washer nozzle.
Washer hose or tubing is available for service only as roll stock, which must then be cut to length. The headliner washer hose or tube is integral to the
headliner and, if ineffective or damaged, the headliner unit must be replaced. The molded plastic washer hose fittings and routing clips cannot be
repaired. If these fittings or clips are ineffective or damaged, they must be replaced.
OPERATION
FRONT
Washer fluid in the washer reservoir is pressurized and fed by the washer pump/motor unit through the front washer system plumbing and fittings to the
two front washer nozzles. Whenever routing the washer hose or a wire harness containing a washer hose, it must be routed away from hot, sharp, or
moving parts; and, sharp bends that might pinch the hose must be avoided.
REAR
Washer fluid in the washer reservoir is pressurized and fed by the washer pump/motor unit through the rear washer system plumbing and fittings to the
rear washer nozzle located on the Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) on the top of the liftgate outer panel. Whenever routing the washer hose
or a wire harness containing a washer hose, it must be routed away from hot, sharp, or moving parts; and, any sharp bends that might pinch the hose must
be avoided.
