Flash: Incorrect Reporting of DTC P0730 for DTC P0717
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with new software.
NOTE:
Vehicles equipped with a CVT transmission must have the powertrain control module (PCM) checked for the latest software level whenever the
TCM software is updated. If newer PCM software is available, it must be installed. Failure to maintain software coordination may result in MIL
illumination or driveability concerns. Follow the detailed procedures in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT for PCM reprogramming procedures if
required.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), (sales code DAV), built on or before March 20, 2008
(MDHO320XX).
DISCUSSION:
In some cases, DTC P0730 (Incorrect Gear Ratio) may set instead of DTC P0717 (Input Speed Sensor 1 Circuit No Signal). This may lead the technician
to an incorrect diagnostic path and make it more difficult to determine the cause for the DTC. When diagnosing faults associated with DTC P0730, the
TCM should be updated to make sure the correct DTC is being set.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as
designed. If DTC's are present, other than those listed above, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this
bulletin.
If DTC P0730 is set without cause, perform the Repair Procedure before proceeding with further diagnostics.
