Flash: 4.7L High Output (H.O.) - Cold Engine Rough Idle Or Hesitation
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 4.7L High Output engine (sales code EVC) and built between May 02, 2003 (MDH 0502XX) and
May 16, 2004 (MDH 0516XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience one or both of the following:
1.
A rough engine idle following a cold engine start in ambient temperature of around 7° C to 32° C (20° F to 90° F).
2.
A cold engine hesitation for about one minute following a cold engine start.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (DRBIII(R)) with TechCONNECT or the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual, verify all engine systems are functioning as
designed. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences one or more of the conditions described above perform the Repair Procedure.

An updated J1962 cable has been released. This cable has a red colored connector at the DRBIII(R) connection. Use this cable whenever a flash is
being performed.
