SUBJECT:
Air Conditioning Will Not Cool - Misadjusted Schrader Valve in the Accumulator Bottle
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO MDH 05 06 01.
MODELS:
1993 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicle air conditioning systems may not cool due to a misadjusted Schrader valve located in the accumulator bottle under the clutch cycling
switch. This condition can be corrected by adjusting the Schrader valve.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Disconnect the wires to the clutch cycling switch (Figure 1).
2.
Remove the air conditioning clutch cycling switch from the top of the accumulator bottle. In most cases this can be done by hand.
3.
Use a straight edge to check the position of the pintle of the Schrader valve in relationship to the top of the switch port (Figure 2). It must be flush.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This procedure involves adjusting the Schrader valve in the accumulator bottle under the clutch cycling switch and checking the system for normal
operation.
1.
If the valve is too low, use a Schrader valve tool to turn the valve counter clockwise until the top of the valve pintle is flush with the top of the
accumulator bottle switch port.
2.
Install the clutch cycling switch and connect the wiring.
3.
Check the system for normal operation.
