SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHTS
Two brake indicator lights are used with the anti-lock system. One light is red (warning light), the other yellow (check anti-lock light). Both are in
the instrument cluster (fig. 23). The lights are in circuit with the self diagnostic program in the ECU and signal both normal operation and system
faults to the driver (fig. 24).
The yellow light indicates anti-lock system condition and is in circuit with the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The red warning light indicates
parking brake is applied, fluid leaks or other fault conditions. Both lights illuminate at start- up and go out when the self-diagnostic program
determines system operation is normal. This illumination feature is part of the system self-test feature and indicates normal operation. if the ECU
detects a fault, the yellow light will illuminate until the fault condition clears or the ignition switch is cycled, depending on the fault. The yellow
light may also illuminate in tandem with the red warning light to indicate some types of faults. When the ECU detects a fault, it will also disable
the modulator solenoid valves. This allows only normal braking and no anti-lock function.
NOTE: There are delays in the illumination of the lights for certain faults and the delay time gives an indication of the specific fault.
