SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Vehicle may exhibit a high frequency noise or whine from the fuel pump. This noise is most noticeable in the passenger compartment at engine idle.
DIAGNOSIS
If the vehicle is a 1987 model, verify that I.S. Note 32E procedure has been performed. Which has been appended to this tsb. If the I.S. Note procedure
has been done and the high frequency noise is still present with the engine at idle, proceed with the following repair procedure.
If the vehicle is a 1988-90 model, proceed with the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure involves the addition of a pulse damper to the electric fuel pump to help eliminate fuel pump noise.
1.
Relieve fuel system pressure per the Fuel Pressure Release Procedure in the Service Manual.
2.
Remove the fuel pump/gauge sending unit from the fuel tank. Discard the sending unit O-ring.
NOTE:
Verify that the rubber stopper located on the end of the fuel return tube remained attached when the fuel sending unit was removed from the
tank. If the rubber stopper is not with the sending unit, locate it now and reattach it to the fuel return tube.
3.
Remove the hose and clamps between the fuel pump outlet and the fuel outlet tube.
