Using a suitable punch, remove disengage and remove lock sector.
h.
Remove gear selector lever housing and shroud from steering column jacket, then the selector lever spring from the lever housing.
i.
Remove steering column from vehicle if not previously done.
j.
Remove steering shaft.
k.
Remove spring clip from lower bearing retainer, then the bearing retainer, bearing and adapter.
l.
Slide out and remove the shift tube.

On models with console shift, proceed as follows:
a.
Remove ignition lock cylinder housing and shroud attaching bolts, then the housing from steering column jacket.
b.
Remove the dimmer switch actuator arm.
c.
Disengage remote rod from the lock rack.
d.
Remove ignition lock cylinder to shroud attaching screws, then separate the housing and shroud.
e.
Remove wave washer from key release lever pivot, then the release lever and pivot.
f.
Remove lock rack and lock bolt.
g.
Remove the lock rack preload spring.
h.
Using a suitable punch, disengage and remove lock sector.
i.
Remove steering column from vehicle if not previously done.
j.
Remove steering shaft.
k.
Remove spring clip from lower bearing retainer, then the bearing retainer, bearing and adapter.
Assembly
Use only correct screws, bolts and nuts when servicing the steering column. Do not use any substitute fasteners. Tighten all fasteners to
specification to maintain the energy absorbing (compression) action of the steering column.

On models with column shift, proceed as follows:
a.
Install lock sector on lock sector shaft in the ignition lock cylinder housing.
b.
Install rack preload spring. Ensure bowed side of spring contacts the lock rack when rack is installed.
c.
Assemble lock bolt and lock rack, then install rack assembly in ignition lock cylinder housing. Ensure block tooth in rack engages block
tooth of lock sector.
d.
Install shift lever detent plate on ignition lock cylinder housing.
e.
Install thrust cap on ignition lock cylinder housing.
f.
Install ignition switch actuating rod and rack in ignition lock cylinder housing.
g.
Install gear selector lever lower bearing in housing.
h.
Install gear selector lever spring in lever housing.
i.
Install gear selector lever housing and shroud on upper end of steering column jacket. Rotate the housing to ensure bearing is
properly seated.
j.
Place gear selector lever housing in park position, pull lock rack downward, then position ignition lock cylinder housing on steering
column jacket and install attaching screws.
