Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove horn center button.
3. Remove screws, bushing, receiver and spring.
4. Place alignment marks on steering wheel and steering column for installation.
5. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
6. Using a suitable puller, remove steering wheel from column.
7. Pry cover from lock plate using 2 screwdrivers, then remove lock plate as follows:
a. Identify steering shaft thread type. Metric shafts have an identifying groove on steering wheel locating splines as shown in.
b. Mount lock plate compressor J-23653 or equivalent on steering shaft, using forcing bolt J-23653-A on models with metric steering shafts.
c. Tighten nut on tool to compress upper bearing preload spring, then remove and discard lock plate retaining ring.
d. Loosen nut on tool, then remove tool and lock plate.
8. Remove turn signal canceling cam, upper bearing preload spring and thrust washer from steering shaft.
9. Move turn signal actuating lever in right turn position and remove lever.
10.
Depress hazard warning light switch and remove button by turning counterclockwise.
11.
Remove turn signal electrical connector harness from column mounting bracket and disconnect connector.
12.
Remove turn signal switch attaching screws, then pull switch and electrical connector harness from steering column.
13.
Reverse procedure to install.
