Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, raise vehicle and support at side sills.
2.
Drain engine oil, then remove starter motor and flywheel housing cover.
3.
Remove oil pan retaining screws, then lower pan and slide to the rear to gain clearance for removal.
4.
Clean all old gasket material and sealer from oil pan, engine block and timing cover.
5.
Install new oil pan front seal into timing case cover and liberally apply RTV sealer to recesses in ends of seal.
6.
Install rear pan seal into recess in rear main bearing cap, ensuring that seal is fully seated.
7.
If gasket is being used on pan side rails, coat both sides of gaskets with suitable ``Hi-Tack'' sealer and cement gaskets to block side rails, ensuring
that gasket tabs are properly engaged in seal recesses. RTV sealer is used in place of pan rail gaskets, apply a continuous bead of sealer to pan side
rails, {3/16} inch wide, circling all bolt holes.
8.
Install oil pan and torque retaining bolts to 11 ft. lbs.
9.
Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
