Parking Brake Backing Plate: Service and Repair
Brake Backing Plate - Removal
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the disc brake caliper adapter See: Disc Brake System/Brake Caliper/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Disc Brake Caliper
Adapter - Removal.
4. Remove the disc brake rotor, See: Disc Brake System/Brake Rotor/Disc/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Brake Rotor - Removal.
5. Remove the wheel speed sensor See: Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Wheel Speed Sensor/Service and Repair/Wheel Speed Sensor -
Removal/Rear.
6. Lock out the front brake cable at the equalizer.
7. Remove the rear parking brake cable from the equalizer.
8. Remove the parking brake cable from the brake shoe lever at the axle.
9. Remove the axle shaft See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Axle Shaft/Service and
Repair/Rear Axle - 226RBI/Removal.
10. Tap the support plate from the axle shaft.
11. Disassemble the rear park brake shoes.
12. Remove the support plate from the axle seal plate.
