Auxiliary Drive Belt Wear/Damage

MODEL

New Range Rover All Derivatives Range Rover Classic All Derivatives Discovery All Derivatives Defender All Derivatives

DETAIL

The design and construction of the auxiliary drive belt on 300Tdi/V8/BMW Diesel engine variants allows for a degree of visible damage within its service life before replacement is necessary. The illustration on sheet 2 is provided for guidance when assessing the condition of these belts. Under normal road conditions the service schedule calls for a replacement of the auxiliary belt after 96,000 miles/154000km, however after prolonged off road use or in severe operating conditions it is advisable to inspect the belt drive for damage at more regular intervals.

Note: This bulletin supersedes bulletin 12/11/96 as the service schedule for a auxiliary belt replacement on all the above engines derivatives will be amended to 72,000miles/120Km, the service schedule sheets will be amended at the next issue to the new figure, all Technicians are therefore required to make the necessary check/replacement at the new figure.

ACTION REQUIRED

At service intervals or during routine maintenance, use the illustration on sheet 2 when assessing the condition of auxiliary drive belts.
