Fuel Filler Lock Barrel Adrift

DETAIL

A small number of vehicles have been dispatched from Land Rover that may have dimensional inaccuracies on the fuel filler caps, this restricts the lock barrel plunger from engaging in the cap location hole, and may result in the lock barrel pulling out of the filler cap. Should this be the case, it is recommended a sharp tap on the top of the lock barrel while it is seated in the filler cap will enable the barrel plunger to engage into the location hole.

ACTION REQUIRED

Fix on fail or upon customer complaint.

PARTS INFORMATION

RTC 4741 Fuel filler cap assembly (non vented) complete with locking barrel.

RTC 4740 Fuel filler cap assembly (vented) complete with locking barrel.

PROCEDURE

1) Secure the filler cap in a suitable position on a flat surface. 2) Seat the lock barrel fully into the filler cap (protect the top of the barrel from any damage). 3) Apply a sharp tap to the barrel, using a wooden or plastic drift to secure the lock barrel into the filler cap, without damaging the filler cap or lock barrel. 4) Check the lock barrel is securely located into the filler cap, check for any stiffness of the lock barrel in operation. 5) If the barrel is still not correctly located into the filler cap, fit a new filler cap assembly.
