DETAIL

We have received a small number of reports of stalling/poor idle and surging on 3.9 V8 derivatives within the above Vin range. Investigations have shown that due to tool wear, some engines have been built with an incorrect sized port in the air-bypass stepper motor housing. The housing has been manufactured with a casting flash over the port which partially restricts airflow and will cause stalling/poor idle and surge.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of stalling/poor idle and surging the air by-pass stepper housing should be removed and checked for the condition stated above, if a faulty motor stepper housing is found it must be replaced.

PARTS INFORMATION

ETC 6214 Idler control adapter

ERR 2926 Idler control adapter housing gasket

Loctite 241 Refer to bulletin 131/93/EN for supplier address information

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 19 Idle air control valve.

Remove the stepper motor housing and check the air passage for evidence of a casting flash restricting the airflow as shown in the illustration overleaf. If a flash of material is evident, replace the housing and fit a new housing gasket. When the stepper motor is re-fitted use Loctite 241 on the threads before fitment.
