PROBLEM:

UPPER STRETCHER CATCH - ADJUSTMENT

CAUSE:

Should the stowage latch be out of adjustment when the upper stretcher is stowed in the upright position there is the possibility that the stretcher could de-latch itself and fall to the horizontal position during normal operation of the vehicle.

ACTION:

Check the adjustment of the latch to determine if there is a minimum of 8mm overlap between the latch and stretcher striker plate.

PROCEDURE

• Ensure both upper stretcher frames are in the upright position and that the slam latch is in the fully engaged position before carrying out the measuring procedure. • Using a scriber against the latch mark a line on the stretcher frame striker plate along the complete latch width as shown in Fig 1- Item A. • Check that the engagement of the upper stretcher frame stowage latch on the upper stretcher frame striker plate is a minimum of 8mm for both upper stretcher applications. The dimension is measured from the striker plate top face to the previously scribed line, Fig 2 - Item B

Key: Fig 2 A = Scribed line B = Minimum 8mm C = Striker plate

• If the dimension measured is 8mm nominal no further action is required.

• Should the dimension be less than 8mm, ie 7mm the four bolt holes within the assembly will have to be elongated by 1mm to achieve an 8mm setting, Fig 1 - Item D. • Remove the four latch fixings to detach the latch from its mounting Fig 1 - Item D. • Dismantle latch assembly by removing red handnut, slide out the latch tongue and spring. • Elongate the TOP of the four bolt holes by the difference measured during the check process, to achieve nominal 8mm setting. • Ensure latch is clean and free from ‘filings’, re-assemble latch and secure the latch to the latch mounting. • Ensure latch operates freely, re-check 8mm minimum setting is maintained. • Repeat for the other side. • On completion, stow each strecther ensuring that the latch engages correctly, tighten each red handnut locking locking device.
