DETAIL

th gear retaining segment groove, a new mainshaft has been To improve mainshaft strength around the 5 introduced with a larger diameter fillet radius inside the groove. This change also requires modified segments so that they seat in their correct position within the groove. In the event of a need to change a mainshaft, the new mainshaft part number should be quoted together with the new segments. If a mainshaft replacement is undertaken on vehicles prior gearbox number 0417153J then the segment retaining ring must be replaced by the later type. Note: The new segments are interchangeable between the old and new mainshaft but the old segments will only fit the old mainshaft. Note: Issue 2 of this bulletin supersedes previous 37/07/96 as the information in the detail and parts sections has been amended.

ACTION REQUIRED

In the event of a mainshaft failure, repair using the new introduced mainshaft see new part number.

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 37 for strip and re-assembly of the mainshaft.

Note: If a mainshaft replacement is undertaken on vehicels prior to gearbox number 0417153J then tbe segment retaining ring FTC 4524 must be used.
