PROBLEM:

GLOVE BOX WILL NOT STAY CLOSED The customer complains that the glove box will not stay closed and / or that it is difficult to close and rattles.

CAUSE:

Oversize location hole for latch assembly alignment pin allowing latch to rotate, resulting in misalignment of the latch to the striker.

ACTION:

On customer complaint of the above, reposition and secure the latch assembly as described below: 1. With the glove box open, using a short screwdriver, remove the single countersunk screw securing the latch assembly to the glove box. 2. Identify the hole in the glove box for the latch location pin, (arrowed in illustration). 3. Apply ‘Loctite Super Glue Gel’ or ‘Loctite Super Attack’ to the location hole. 4. Refit the latch assembly ensuring that it is aligned squarely with the moulded recess in the glove box. Tighten the securing screw to a torque of 1Nm. 5. Confirm that latch assembly is square to the glove box and operates freely, with the latching pawl returning fully to its rest position. 6. Allow a minimum of 5 minutes for adhesive to cure before testing the glove box for satisfactory operation.
