PROBLEM:

REAR SEAT SQUAB RATTLES - TRAVEL STOP

The customer complains of rattles from the unoccupied 60/40 seat.

CAUSE:

Excessive free play on the seat squab travel stop mechanism.

ACTION:

Confirm that rear seat squab free play is the source of the rattle and fit eccentric collars to remove free play using the following procedure:

1. Fold down the rear squabs, release the seat bases and fold the seats forward.

2. Remove two screws securing each outboard trim cover and remove covers, (illustration 1).

Bulletin N o : 0039 L8542bu 1 14.07.99

3. Mask area around the over - travel stop pins, (arrowed in illustration 2) and remove paint from stop pins using abrasive paper.

4. Trial fit the eccentric collars, part number HTP100080, to ensure that they can rotate freely on the stop pins.

5. Apply Loctite 638 to the over travel stop pins ensuring there are no adhesive runs or drips onto seat trims or mechanisms. NOTE: THE WORKING TIME OF THE ADHESIVE IS TEN MINUTES MAXIMUM. Ensure that the following stages of the repair can be completed in this time.

6. Fit the eccentric collars and rotate them to ensure that their bores receive a full covering of adhesive.

7. Latch the seat bases to the floor and raise the squabs. NOTE: It may be necessary to rotate the collars to allow the squabs to latch. This should only be done from behind the seats, ie: no load on squabs.

8. Close the side doors to prevent any risk of interference with free play adjustment.

5. Working from the rear, push latched 60% squab fully forward to remove all free play. While holding the squab in this position, rotate eccentric collar until its edge is hard against the edge of the cushion pivot plate, (arrowed in illustration 3).

6. Repeat action 9 for the 40% squab.

7. Confirm that both squabs are still forward and that free play has been eliminated. Adjust if necessary.

8. Leave undisturbed for a minimum of three hours for adhesive to fully cure.

9. After full cure, confirm that free play has been eliminated and that squab release effort is satisfactory.
