PROBLEM:
TAIL LAMP CRACKED
CAUSE:
Due to Body in White specification, stresses can be placed on the tail lamp causing it to crack.
ACTION:
On customer complaint of a cracked tail lamp, refer to the following procedure to rectify the tail lamp aperture and replace the damaged tail lamp.
1. Remove tail lamp, refer to Workshop Manual, Lighting, repair number 86.40.70. 2. To remove the stress points on the tail lamp, file 4 small semi circles into the lamp aperture, in areas shown circled on the illustration. Offer the tail lamp to the aperture, noting where on the tail lamp the possible stress points will be. The size of the semi circles should be similar to that arrowed in the illustration.
To ensure that the semi circles will not be seen when the new lamp is fitted, offer the new tail lamp to the aperture before proceeding.
3. Repair paint finish as required. Where bare metal has been exposed, etch prime prior to painting. 4. Fit new tail lamp, refer to Workshop Manual, Lighting, repair number 86.40.70.
