AFFECTED RANGE:
All Td5 diesel derivatives with air conditioning in VIN ranges: XA 900012 to XA 907212 XA 200412 to YA 277020
PROBLEM:
ENGINE POWER FLUCTUATES DURING ACCELERATION The customer may report any or all of the following problems: Erratic engine performance under load, i.e. conditions where turbocharger would normally be producing boost. Erratic performance from air conditioning system (A/C), i.e. air in cabin intermittently not being cooled on demand. ‘Check engine’ light (MIL) illuminated.
CAUSE:
Damage to the engine harness to turbocharger boost control solenoid and/or the A/C compressor wiring due to chafing on the A/C compressor pipe connector block.
ACTION:
Where a complaint vehicle exhibits symptoms similar to those described above, inspect the boost control harness in the area of the A/C compressor connector block. Where damage is confirmed, repair the harness as necessary. If damage is confined to • the insulation, (no damage to bare wires) repair by individually taping the damaged sections of wire. If damage extends to the • wire core, replace the damaged section using wire of the same gauge as the original, with joints protected by insulating sleeves.
Bulletin N o : 0023 L8600bu 1 05.07.2000
On completion of the repair, protect the area with split convoluted plastic • conduit to ensure that the problem does not recur. Prior to reconnecting the harness, reroute behind the A/C compressor pipe • connector block and beneath both A/C pipes, as shown arrowed in the illustration. Ensure that the harness does not come into contact with the connector block or pipes.
