Discovery Series ll Defender
AFFECTED RANGE:
All Td5 diesel derivatives
PROBLEM:
‘CHECK ENGINE’ LIGHT (MIL) ILLUMINATED
The driver will also report the following problems: Engine defaults to idle with no response from throttle pedal. Response MAY be reinstated after turning the ignition off and on. Engine will only idle after start up.
CAUSE:
The wiring harness connector may not be fully connected and latched to the throttle position (TP) sensor.
ACTION:
Upon customer complaint of the above problem, confirm that the harness connector is fully latched to the sensor. The sensor, (arrowed in illustration), is an integral part of the throttle pedal assembly. To confirm that the connector is fully latched, simply push home as far as possible. Visually confirm that the latch has engaged and ensure that connector cannot now be pulled out. NOTE: There is NO audible click when the latch engages. If the problem persists when it has been confirmed that the connector is secure, run a TestBook HEALTH CHECK in REAL TIME MONITORING to check sensor operation and pedal outputs.
