Discovery Series II
PROBLEM:
BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR - FLUID FLOW
CAUSE:
The brake fluid filter fitted to early Discovery Series II vehicles, contains one 3mm drain hole, which in the event of fluid loss causes fluid to drain through the filter, thus allowing the float switch to activate the brake fluid warning light. However the filter with a 3mm hole has been found to restrict the flow of fluid preventing the warning light being activated in a timely manner.
ACTION:
At the first available opportunity, either during remedial warranty work or at the next service, replace the existing Brake Reservoir Filter, with a revised filter containing two 5mm drain holes. Refer to procedure below.
PROCEDURE
Remove the brake reservoir cap, and detach the existing reservoir filter, replacing it with the revised filter, which is yellow in colour and has two 5mm drain holes, as opposed to the current filter which has one 3mm draining hole. The filter is shown by an arrow on the illustration opposite
Once fitted, replace the reservoir cap and clean away any spilt brake fluid.
