RE - ISSUE INFORMATION: NOTE added to ACTION text concerning appearance of PAS fluid. Please destroy your existing copy and replace with this Issue 3.

PROBLEM:

POWER ASSISTED STEERING FLUID - SPECIFICATION

CAUSE:

The introduction of Texaco ‘Cold Climate PAS Fluid 14315’ on production.

ACTION:

The above fluid (green in colour) has not previously been used in Land Rover products and is the ONLY PAS fluid which is approved for Discovery Series II. NOTE: During the manufacturing process an Ultra Violet (UV) fluid is added to the steering box to aid leak detection. Although the steering box is drained after the leak detection test, it is not always possible to completely remove all of the UV fluid. This residual UV fluid, which is fully compatible with the PAS fluid, may show as a brown discolouration in the PAS fluid reservoir. This is completely acceptable and NO ACTION IS NECESSARY.

On this model the Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) system shares the same specification fluid as the PAS system. The PAS/ACE fluid reservoir has two separate chambers but the body moulding is common. All concerned must be aware therefore, that in this application, this fluid must not be mixed with any other type of PAS fluid. The result of doing so will have an adverse effect on system performance and durability which could result in Warranty being compromised.
