Range Rover Discovery Series II Defender Freelander

AFFECTED RANGE:

All vehicles

PROBLEM:

STEERING / ROAD WHEEL VIBRATION - NEW VEHICLES During PDI road test, a vibration is felt through the steering wheel and / or the driver’s seat which may be interpreted as out of balance road wheels and tyres.

CAUSE:

The tyres have developed flat spots as the result of the vehicle remaining in long term storage during the delivery process. This is more likely to occur in Markets where high ambient temperatures prevail.

ACTION:

In normal circumstances no action is necessary other than to ensure that the tyre pressures have been set to normal subsequent driving, the flat spots should progressively run off and the level of vibration diminish. NOTE: Do not re - balance wheel and tyre assemblies that have covered only delivery distances as when any flat spots run off, vibration will return. Take action only if the condition is considered to be too severe to permit hand over of the vehicle to the customer. Should this be the case, UK Dealers should consult Land Rover Technical • Support and Overseas Dealers, their National Sales Company or Distributor Headquarters. In all other instances, explain to the customer that there is a small level of wheel • and tyre vibration present, which will run off during early use. If the vibration persists when the vehicle has covered approximately 500 miles, • (800 kms), balance the wheels. If the problem is still not resolved, contact the appropriate Technical Support area as above.
