Front Seat Creak/Squeak

MODEL

Discovery 3 Door

DETAIL

Reviewing warranty statistics has shown a significant rise in claims for rectification of front seat creaks and squeaks on 3 door Discovery derivatives. To improve the situation initiatives have been introduced onto vehicle production to adjust the four seat base rubber buffers to ensure that no gaps between the buffer and seat base are present. A lubrication process has also been implemented that lubricates all the pivot points and torsion bar clamps on the seat tipping mechanism.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of front seat creak/squeak check and adjust the rubber buffers and at every service interval apply Rocol lubricant to all the pivot points and torsion bars on the seat tipping mechanism.

PARTS INFORMATION

Rocol 34311 lubricant

Refer to Technical Bulletin 01/18/94 for supplier address information

PROCEDURE

Adjust rubber buffers: 1) Ensure seat and tilt handle are fully latched. 2) Check the four buffer gaps using a 0.15 mm feeler gauge, if a gap is present tilt seat upwards and using a screwdriver rotate the buffers anti-clockwise 1/8 turn. 3) Relatch seat and check gap, if necessary repeat the previous process. Ensure all four buffers contact the seat base.

Lubricate seat pivot points and torsion bars: 4) Using Rocol 34311 lubricant, lubricate all seat pivot points on both sides of the seat base and torsion bar, see illustration.
