Electric Sunroof Jamming

MODEL

Discovery with Factory Fitted Sunroof

DETAIL

We have received a small number of reports that indicate, when the switch is pressed to operate the front or rear sunroof, the sunroof is jamming during its cycle and will not perform the tilt & slide action when opening. Investigations have found this is caused by a foul condition between the front edge of the sunroof glass and the sunroof mounting arms.

All vehicles after VIN 142091 have had the sunroof mounting arms modified to prevent fouling, or damage.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of any vehicles demonstrating the above concerns on front or rear electric sunroofs, follow the two procedures below.

PARTS INFORMATION

BTR 8240 Sunroof assembly

PROCEDURE

Procedure 1

1. Fully close the sunroof

2. On the outside edge of the sunroof measure the clearance between the front edge of the glass and the upper frame assembly,(see illustration A opposite).

3. Clearance should be 6.00 - 6.5 mm along the length of the glass, If incorrect slacken the 4 glass fixing screws and adjust the glass position to obtain the correct clearance and re-tighten screws to 2.9 - 3.0 Nm.

4. Re-test sunroof operation, if still faulty carry out procedure 2.

(See Overleaf for procedure 2)

Procedure 2

When putting the sunroof into tilt check if the rear of the sunroof glass mounting arms are fouling on the rear latches, (see illustration B) This can be seen from inside the car looking at he back of the sunroof.

If the sunroof will not tilt with the sunroof switch operated, push gently on the rear of the sunroof.

If the sunroof glass mounting arms are fouling the rear latches carry out the following:

1. Put sunroof into tilt position, 2. Place protective cloth or masking tape to outside of roof around rear corners of the sunroof, 3. Accurately place a thin strip of masking tape (1mm) from the end of the sunroof glass mounting arm as a guide to file up to. 4. With a file carefully remove 1mm only, in length from the end of the sunroof glass mounting arm (see illustration B). 5. Remove the masking tape and remove any shape edges or burrs from the filed are, Note: clean away all filings from sunroof mechanism, re-test the sunroof tilt operation if correct touch up exposed metal areas with a primer and black paint, 6. When paint has dried place a dab of grease on the end of sunroof mounting arm and re-test operation of sunroof. 7. If the sunroof is still jamming after carrying out both of the procedures, replace the complete sunroof assembly.
