SRS Warning Lamp Illuminated

MODEL

Discovery with Single Point Sensing (SRS) Discovery with Single Point Sensing (SRS) Discovery with Single Point Sensing (SRS)

DETAIL

During periods of prolonged engine cranking the SRS light may illuminate and may remain illuminated until the ignition is switched off. This may be due to low battery volts. If the warning lamp fails to extinguish automatically once the battery volts have recovered (ie once the engine fires and runs) the SRS Electronic Control unit should be examined to determine if it is the latest type, if the part number is different to that below replace with the revised unit.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of an SRS lamp illuminating, check that the cause is not due to a battery in poor state of charge. If the battery volts are within specification replace the SRS electronic control unit.

PARTS INFORMATION

AWR 6533 Electronic control unit - driver only air bag

AWR 6534 Electronic control unit - driver and passenger air bag

PROCEDURE

The ECU location for vehicles fitted with Single Point Sensing (SRS) is the same as the previous distributed system, therefore refer to the workshop manual Supplementary Restraint System.

Tighten ECU fixings to 8-12 Nm.

It should be noted that once the ECU has been changed the battery should be reconnected and ignition switched on, the SRS warning light will illuminate as part of the bulb check process and then extinguish if there is no fault with the SRS system. should the warning light remain illuminated interrogate the SRS system using TestBook.
