Trailer Warning-Light Intermittent Operation

MODEL

Discovery all derivatives

DETAIL

We have received a number of reports which indicate a trailer warning light failure, when a trailer is connected. This failure only affects vehicles fitted with the 3 way configuration ie when the side repeaters are operational in the rear bumper and the waist high rear light cluster. Investigations have shown that the cause is due to a tight threshold on the load sensing circuit for the warning light.

Modified flasher relays are now available from Unipart using the same part number, these units will be date stamped from the 2395, in the bottom left hand corner (see illustration).

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of the trailer warning intermittently operating on vehicles with the 3 way configuration, replace the flasher unit as detailed below.

PARTS INFORMATION

AMR 4873 Flasher unit (date stamped 23/95)

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 86.

1. Check all bulbs on the side repeater system for correct wattage (21watts). 2. Check bulb holders for corrosion, central feed contact and for good continuity. 3. Connect trailer test board to the vehicle and check the warning light is working, if it is not working replace the flasher unit. 4. After replacing the flasher unit retest the system with the trailer board.

Note: The customer should be advised to check the trailer has 21 watt bulbs fitted.
