DETAIL

This bulletin supersedes 07/17/96/EN Issue 1. The Detail and Action sections have been amended. We have a number of concerns about the fitment of after market air-conditioning units other than the approved Land Rover Kit. Whilst we cannot prevent dealers from fitting products other than Land Rover approved, dealers should be aware of the possible consequences of fitting other products and if they believe it appropriate, should explain the consequences to the customer. Our kits include a harness to ensure that the air-conditioning units are controlled via the engines ECU, (Electronic Control Unit ). This ensures that the air conditioning units are switched off upon starting the engine to ensure that the engine has enough power to start up and for the vehicle to accelerate. Other after market kits which are not controlled by the ECU could provide problems. One reason is that the kits may not be switched off automatically upon start up resulting in the engine experiencing a loss of power. This in turn means that the vehicle will not accelerate, which could potentially place the customer in compromising situations when starting to drive off .
