DETAIL

A revised kickdown lever at the fuel injection pump has been introduced to overcome poor driveability due to erratic kickdown preformance.

If for any reason a fuel injection pump is removed, idle adjustment is carried out or poor kick down performance is identified the kickdown lever should be replaced for the new part. The new part is directly interchangeable with the previous part.

ACTION REQUIRED

Replace the kickdown lever on customer complaint of poor kickdown performance or when any servicing procedure is carried out on the injection pump.

PROCEDURE

Note: Prior to undertaking the setting procedure of the new kickdown lever it is important that the kickdown cable is not connected to the lever.

Remove the kickdown lever from the pump and replace it with the new lever.

1) Disconnect the kick down cable when checking kickdown lever setting. 2) Ensure the throttle lever 'A' is located in the idle position.

3) Move the throttle lever 'A' to the full throttle position and measure the linear distance 'X' that the hole in the throttle lever travels.

4) The kickdown lever has the facility to accomodate four individual settings identified by the numbers 1 to 4 stamped on the lever face. If the throttle lever movement 'X' is between :23.5-25.5 mm connect the kickdown cable to hole 1 25.5-27.5 mm connect the kickdown cable to hole 2 27.5-29.5 mm connect the kickdown cable to hole 3 29.5-31.5 mm connect the kickdown cable to hole 4

In the event of a measurement coinciding with two hole positions, select the hole with the highest number (towards the centre of the pump).

After setting the kickdown lever movement, the kickdown cable linear travel should be not exceed 52 mm measured at point 'Y'

5) Kickdown cable free play between the crimp on the cable and the end of the outer cable should not exceed 1mm. If necessary adjust using the two locknuts.
