About the Discovery
The Discovery, launched in 1989, was Land Rover's first new model line since the 1970 Range Rover, on which it was based, and was meant to fill the everyday role the Range Rover had grown out of. The Series II followed in 1998, and the third generation, sold in North America as the LR3 and then LR4, in 2004.
