Emission Maintenance Reminder

The emission maintenance reminder is designed to activate at 52,500 and 105,000 miles respectively and will illuminate a "Service Engine", or check
engine red warning light in instrument binnacle.

The "Check Engine" light terminology was used on 1988-1989 vehicles. In 1990 this light relabeled "Service Engine" and is known as the Service
Reminder Indicator (SRI) in the industry. This Service Reminder Indicator is retained on current models.

The emission maintenance reminder must be reset after required maintenance has been carried out and a new tamper proof label installed by the
servicing technician.

The control unit is located:

-

Under rear of rt. ft. seat, 1989-1995 RR Classic, 1994-1995 Discovery.

Under dash next to steering column, 1988 RR Classic

-

Behind instrument cluster 1993-1995 Defender 110/90.

Behind rt. ft. kick panel 1996 Discovery.

To Reset:

1. Identify control unit and remove from plug.
2. Remove the tamper proof label to reveal access hole for resetting.
3. Place a thin metallic probe (Pin Punch) into access hole and momentarily electrically short between reset pins inside unit.
4. Install new "tamper proof label" on control unit.
5. Replace control unit into its plug.
