Remove the centralizing dowel from the steering box before road test.
9.
Road test the vehicle noting the position of the steering wheel.
10.
The steering wheel should now be within 90 degrees of center.
11.
Adjust the drag link length until the steering wheel is returned to center.
Method (B) ALIGN STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING COLUMN LOCK
1.
Disconnect battery leads, negative lead first.
2.
Remove the air bag assembly (if applicable), refer to Workshop manual section 76.
3.
Remove the steering wheel, refer to the workshop manual section 57.
4.
Remove cruise control cassette (if applicable), refer to the Workshop Manual section 57.
5.
Remove the intermediate steering shaft, refer to the Workshop Manual section 57.
6.
Engage the steering column lock.
Note
The steering box is now pegged on center and the steering column is locked in position.
7.
Refit the intermediate steering shaft, refer to the Workshop Manual section 57.
8.
Centralize the cruise control cassette (If applicable, refer to bulletin 57/04/94).
9.
Refit the cruise control cassette, (If applicable) refer to the Workshop Manual section 57.
10.
Ensure the direction indicator cancelling dogs are horizontal.
11.
Refit the steering wheel and tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb.ft.).
12.
Refit the air bag (if applicable).
13.
Reconnect the battery and switch the ignition on, monitor the SRS light (if applicable) to ensure it extinguishes.
CAUTION
Remove the centralizing dowel from the steering box before road test.
14.
Road test the vehicle noting the position of the steering wheel.
15.
The steering wheel should now be within 90 degrees of center.
16.
Adjust the drag link length until the steering wheel is returned to center.
