Pistons & Connecting Rods Assembly

CAUTION:  Pistons have a 0.5 mm offset wrist pin which can be identified by an arrow mark on the piston crown. This arrow MUST always point to
the front of the engine.

1. Assemble pistons to connecting rods with arrow on piston pointing towards domed shaped boss on connecting rod for RH bank of cylinders, and

arrow pointing away from dome shaped boss for LH bank of cylinders.

2. Clamp hexagon body of tool No. LRT-12-013, or equivalent, in vice.
3. Slacken large nut and pull the center screw 50 mm out of hexagon body.
4. Locate piston adapter tool No. LRT-12-126/2, or equivalent, with its long spigot inside bore of hexagon body.
5. Install parallel sleeve, tool No. LRT-12-126/3, or equivalent, grooved end towards piston, up to shoulder on center screw.
6. Lubricate wrist pin and bores of connecting rod and piston with graphite oil.
7. Locate connecting rod and piston to center screw with connecting rod entered on sleeve up to groove.
8. Install wrist pin on to center screw and into piston bore up to connecting rod.
9. Install remover/replacer bush tool No. LRT-12-126/1, or equivalent, with flanged end towards wrist pin.

10. Screw the stop nut on to center screw and position piston against face of adaptor tool No. LRT-12-126/2, or equivalent.
11. Lubricate center screw threads and thrust race with graphite oil, install and screw large nut up to tool No. LRT-12-013, or equivalent.
12. Lock the stop nut securely with lockscrew.
13. Set torque wrench to 16 Nm, and using socket on large nut, pull wrist pin in until flange of tool No. LRT-12-126/1, or equivalent, is distance A

from face of piston.

Distance A: 0.4 mm.

14. If correct torque figure is not achieved during above operation, install of wrist pin to connecting rod is not acceptable and components must be

replaced.

CAUTION:  The center screw and thrust race must be kept well lubricated throughout operation. Flange of remover/replacer must not be allowed
to contact piston.

15. Dismantle tool, remove piston, check no damage has occurred during pressing and piston moves freely on wrist pin.
16. Repeat above operation for remaining pistons.
