SUBJECT:
Engine Oil Specification and Starting Procedure Cold Climate/Winter Use
MODEL:
Range Rover, Discovery, Defender
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
All Vehicles
Following customer complaints of no start in ambient temperatures of typically below -5 degrees Fahrenheit (-20°C), the service procedure shown
following should be implemented immediately for all vehicles operated in the shaded areas of the attached map. Oil viscosity and battery condition have
a significant affect upon 5W/30 or 5W/40 engine oil and the starting procedure shown below will ensure that the best cranking speed and lubrication
characteristics are achieved in extreme cold weather.
Note:
Since the break in characteristics of mineral oils exceed those of synthetic, synthetic oils should not be used before the 7500 mile service.
ACTION RE0UIRED
For customers who operate their vehicles in the shaded area of the map follow the procedure described. Advise customers of the starting procedure
shown in ADDITIONAL DETAILS and make them aware of the instructions in the Owners Handbook which have recently been updated.
