Aftermarket Accessories
WARNING:
Do not attach aftermarket accessories into the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) circuits.
CAUTION:
Never integrate aftermarket accessories into OBD II circuits.
1.
Check for aftermarket accessories as a first step in diagnosing electrical problems.
2.
If the vehicle is equipped with aftermarket accessories, disconnect the system to verify that they are not the cause of the problem.
3.
Possible causes of vehicle problems due to aftermarket accessories include:

Power feeds connected to points other than the vehicle battery.
^
Transceiver wiring located too close to vehicle electronic modules or wiring.
^
Poor shielding or poor connections on antenna feed line.
^
Antenna location.
CAUTION:
Back-probing can cause damage to connector terminals, extra care should be taken to avoid deforming the terminal. Damage can be caused
forcing the test probe too far into the cavity or by using too large a test probe.
Back-probe
1.
Only back-probe connector terminals when specifically called for in diagnostic procedures.
2.
After back-probing any connector, always check for terminal damage.
3.
If terminal damage is suspected, check for proper terminal contact.
OBD II Circuit Repairs
When inspecting OBD II circuits, the following guidelines are essential:
1.
Do not move or alter grounds from their manufactured locations
2.
Do not attach aftermarket accessories into OBD II circuits
3.
Only repair OBD II circuits in accordance with manufacturer configuration.
4.
Always replace a relay in an OBD II circuit with the same replacement part. Never try to repair a relay, damaged relays should always be replaced.
