DETAIL

Recent investigations on problem vehicles suffering with the above symptoms have identified several issues which can result in poor start or poor
running conditions:

1.

Poor connections at spade type connectors at the ignition module on vehicles built prior to the introduction of the three pin module.

2.

Poor connections at the spade type connectors at the coil.

3.

Loose screws securing the ignition module to the distributor.

All the above items are critical to ensure reliable ignition and fuel injection system performance. From the following VIN's the ignition module is
mounted next to the coil, Range Rover LH 651320 and Discovery LJ 094036. 

ACTION REQUIRED

Whenever a vehicle has the symptoms reported above, follow the procedure in this bulletin.

PROCEDURE

1.

Where applicable remove the two pin spade type connector from the ignition module and ensure that the pins are clean and dry.

2.

Carefully squeeze the female terminals to ensure they are a good tight fit when they are pushed back onto the ignition module.

3.

Carry out points 1 and 2 for all the spade type connectors at the coil.

NOTE

Some ignition module spade type connections examined on modules returned under warranty have shown no signs of ever having a female
terminal on them as there are no witness marks on the male terminal.

4.

Check the security of the ignition module bolts at the distributor, tighten to 1.2 Nm (10.6 lb in), Do not overtighten. It is critical that these bolts are
tight as the electrical integrity of the ground circuit relies totally on these fixings.
