If TestBook tests do not resolve the problem some basic diagnostics should be followed.
P0500 Fault
This VSS signal is used for four functions:
1.
Speedometer,
2.
Cruise control,
3.
Input into GEMS, and
4.
Service reminder light
Failure of GEMS to receive a signal from the VSS will cause a P0500 fault to be flagged.

VSS Test
Sensor Test
NOTE:
This test is only necessary if a PO5OO fault is flagged. An intermittent sensor will not be detected by this test.
NOTE:
Check ETM section E1 for circuit wiring.
1.
Back probe cavity 27 (YK) of the red 36-way connector C1017 with the red tester lead (Figure 1).
2.
Set PAC tester to a 200 ms time base and 0-16 volts range using the scope Icon.
3.
Make sure the tester ground lead is properly connected.
NOTE:
Do not use Vehicle Speed Sensor preselect.
4.
Switch ignition to position 2.
5.
Observe the scope pattern while pushing the vehicle forward a few feet.
