Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair

1. Ensure power steering pump fluid reservoir reaches dipstick maximum, then run engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn steering wheel 45 degrees in both directions to open valve in steering gear.
3. Check reservoir fluid level and adjust as necessary.
4. With engine at idle speed, loosen bleed screw, then, when fluid seeps past bleed screw retighten screw, noting the following:

a. Do not maintain pressure for more than 30 seconds in one minute to avoid overheating fluid and damaging seals.
b. Maintain maximum fluid level in reservoir.
c. Do not increase engine speed or move steering wheel.

5. Check fluid level, then check for fluid leaks.
6. Road test vehicle.
