Transfer Gearbox Input Seal Leak

SITUATION:

TRANSFER GEARBOX INPUT SEAL LEAKING

In some cases there have been complaints of oil leakage from the transfer gearbox.

RESOLUTION:

REPLACE INPUT SEAL

Confirm source of leakage (see Workshop Manual, Section 41 Fault Diagnosis) A new design input shaft seal for the LT230 transfer gearbox has been
specified to improve seal durability.

NOTE:

The repairs outlined in this TIB are to be performed to resolve customer complaint of the symptoms described.

Time 4.15 hrs.
Replace transfer gearbox input seal

FAULT CODE: X

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

REMOVE TRANSFER GEARBOX

CAUTION:

Ensure that the leak is not transmission oil, clean area and test drive if necessary.

1.

Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 41 for transfer gearbox removal.

2.

Inspect main shaft collar seal track and transfer gearbox face for porosity and damage (see Overhaul Manual LT230).

NOTE:

Use Tool # LRT-37-014 to install new seal.

3.

Replace input seal (see Overhaul Manual LT230).

4.

Reinstall transfer gearbox.

5.

Check transfer gearbox fluid level and top up.
