Bulletin text

Freelander

AFFECTED RANGE:

All 3 door vehicles

PROBLEM:

ALARM INVOLUNTARY OPERATION - VOLUMETRIC SENSOR

The alarm is activated involuntarily in wet conditions.

CAUSE:

The volumetric sensor may be affected by water entering the vehicle via various leak paths as described in the ACTION text. NOTE: this Bulletin is unique to 3 door derivatives. For 5 door applications refer to Technical Bulletins 0006 and

ACTION:

In the event of a customer complaint of the above nature, the following checks should be carried out to further define the problem.

Prior to replacing the volumetric sensor, use TestBook to confirm that a volumetric fault exists:

• = In the ‘Security’ section, go to ‘Information’ and view the ‘Alarm Trigger Readings Buffer’. Up to 4 involuntary alarm events will be recorded. Ignore any test alarm events when interrogating trigger readings. = • = If the last alarm event was triggered by other causes, e.g. a perimetric fault, follow normal diagnostic procedures to resolve. This bulletin does not apply. = • = If the last genuine alarm event confirms a volumetric fault, a new volumetric sensor should be fitted. Before replacing the sensor, a water test should be carried out as follows to establish whether water is entering the vehicle via the roof panel:

1. Remove the interior lamp assembly to allow visual access to the volumetric sensor, aerial base and roof panel underside.

0012.

2. With a low pressure hose, spray water directly around the aerial mast base and the sunroof seal. Examine the inner side of the roof panel for signs of water ingress, paying particular attention to the rear corners of the panel and any sealant bead overlaps. Also, examine the interior lamp and headlining directly below the sensor for evidence of previous water contamination, (area circled in illustration).

3. Should water entry be confirmed, remove the headlining. Cut away any excess sealant from suspect areas and test further to determine the exact point of entry.

4. Apply sealant to entry points and retest.

5. Having resolved any water ingress concerns, the volumetric sensor can be replaced. Refer to Manual INFORMATION for full details.
