Freelander

AFFECTED RANGE:

All vehicles with air conditioning within VIN range WA 601139 to WA 602005

PROBLEM:

POOR DEMISTING PERFORMANCE

Despite correct setting of heating and ventilation controls to fresh air demisting, the interior of the vehicle continues to mist up.

CAUSE:

Incorrect recirculation flap servo motor fitted, preventing correct operation of flap.

ACTION:

Check the operation of the recirculation flap as follows:

1. Turn on the ignition.

1. Confirm that the recirculation switch is set to admit fresh air (indicator light off).

2. Observe the recirculation flap located in the passenger footwell. This should be covering the grill.

3. Operate the recirculation switch (indicator light on). The flap should move towards the bulkhead, uncovering the grill, and stay there until the switch is operated again.

4. If the flap does not respond as described, the servo motor is incorrect and should be replaced. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 80.10.18 for replacement procedure.

NOTE:

When connecting the flap operating rod to the new servo, ensure that the retaining clip is securely fitted.

6. Confirm correct operation of the flap as described at 3 and 4 above.

AFFECTED RANGE:

All 5 door derivatives prior to VIN WA 605040

PROBLEM:

MISTING OF INTERIOR WINDOWS - REAR VENT

The customer complains that the interior windows, particularly the sixth lights, repeatedly mist up despite setting heater controls to fresh air demist.

CAUSE:

Sound deadening material on the left hand rear lower quarter trim casing restricting air flow through the rear extractor vent.

NOTE:

If the vehicle is within VIN range WA 601139 to WA 602005, confirm correct operation of the air recirculation flap. Technical Bulletin

ACTION:

Having confirmed correct operation of the air recirculation flap, remove sound proofing material from the LH rear lower quarter trim casing as follows:

1. Remove the LH rear lower quarter casing, Workshop Manual Section 76.13.12 refers.

2. Referring to the illustration on page 2, identify the acoustic pad on the rear face of the casing.

3. Transfer the dimensions from the illustration to the acoustic pad.

4. With a sharp knife, cut through the pad on the marked lines.

5. Remove the area of pad which is shaded in the illustration. The pad material will peel easily from the casing if cleanly cut through.

6. Refit casing.
