SUBJECT Remote Locking Alarm Control Intermittent Operation

MODEL

Range Rover Classic with factory fitted alarm Discovery with factory fitted alarm

DETAIL

Tests on remote locking handsets returned for intermittent operation, have determined that handsets are being replaced when they are not faulty. It is apparent that customers do not fully understand the operation of the alarm handset, and are perceiving there is a fault with the unit, and that dealers are replacing the units without testing the operation.

One of the alarm features is the rolling code, If the handset is pressed when out of range ( eg in the customers pocket ), when the customer returns to the vehicle the handset will need to pressed three times in order to re-align the code to operate the alarm system correctly., we believe that because the alarm does not unlock on the first attempt, the customer perceives that there is an intermittent handset fault is present

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of intermittent operation of the alarm handset, and before replacement check the handset functions correctly, Explain the operation to the customer. The customer should also be directed to the owners hand book page 12 (alarm functions).
